A rather choppy ferry journey moved me over to the tiny island of Koh Tao, which seemed very heavily aimed at people wanting to learn or go diving, with schools on almost every corner. Koh Samui
Finally managed to get my photos off of the dodgy camera card, so I’ll try to catch up with the blog posts I’ve missed now. I’m actually in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia now – but there’s a few places still to write about first.
A short bus ride from Khao Sok followed by the ferry took me to Koh Samui, the biggest of the islands off the east coast of Thailand. It’s an island that has developed a lot over the years and seems to have quite a family holiday feel to it. So I only stopped for a couple of days. Continue reading

Back on mainland Thailand for a short visit to Khao Sok, a national park set in stunning scenery of jungle and towering limestone mountains. No hostels around here so for once I had my own room! I stayed in a wooden bungalow or hut or whatever you want to call it, with the sounds of the jungle around me. Continue reading
Phuket
A lack of PC access has hindered me updating recently, but I’ve found my way to an Internet Cafe to write a couple of updates. Also here to backup my photos – yesterday my camera decided it wouldn’t save any more photos or even display existing ones, leaving me of course extremely worried! But the card seems to read fine in this PC, so although something still might be wrong with the camera at least I now know I haven’t lost all my photos! Continue reading
Chiang Mai
Arriving in Chiang Mai took a little longer than it normally would. The train tracks are being repaired for last few hundred kilometers so I had to wake from the sleeper train at 6.30am to then wait around nearly 3 hours for the bus to complete the journey, but this did allow for some impressive early morning views of the northern countryside. Ayutthaya
I’ve decided I should keep each place I visit in a separate blog post, so here’s a shorter entry for my day trip to Ayutthaya. This an old capital city of that was supposedly one of the biggest cities in the world around the year 1700 and an important trading point for many nations, until 1767 when some Burmese army came and destroyed it all pretty much. So now there are a lot of old ruins and remnants of temples to explore, and it is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Continue reading
Bangkok
Well, I’m here, alive and well. This blog is partly to keep people back home up to date with what I’ve been up to, but also so I can actually remember it all myself afterwards, so apologies if I ramble too much about pointless things.
My first day arriving here it definitely took some getting used to the heat and humidity. After maybe 5 minutes sleep on the flight over I wasn’t planning on doing much so just headed into Bangkok, a few stops before my hostel so that I could walk around a bit. In an attempt to cool off I wandered around Lumphini Park, which is actually quite peaceful considering it’s in the middle of the city, with several lizards also enjoying the quiet. Continue reading
