After a long 12 hour bus journey down the coast I arrived at Airlie Beach for a couple of days, a small resort town and gateway to the Whitsunday Islands.
The weather was still rather changeable and windy, which became more apparent as soon as you got out into the ocean waters. I was on a boat trip out around the islands and to Whitehaven beach and it was possibly the roughest seas I’ve ever been on. This still didn’t detract from the beauty of the area and even being on Whitehaven beach in the rain was still worthwhile, with it being much less busy than I imagine would be normal.
My other day here was Superbowl Sunday…or rather Monday for me. It was certainly different from what I’m used to, to be watching the game around lunch time in a bar with 28c sun outside… a rather one-sided game but enjoyable all the same.
That left the rest of my time here just relaxing by the lagoon and taking some short walks around the marina and boardwalks. It feels good to be moving from place to place again and next up is a long overnight train journey down to Brisbane.
